These are the things that Republicans either clapped politely but didn’t stand for or sometimes even clap for, while the Democrats gave a standing ovation:

1. Putting out-of -work construction workers to work by improving and building our infrastructure rather than letting China build the best and newest airports, rails, etc.

2. Every child deserves a great school

3. Put our teachers back in the classroom where they belong

4. Don’t make an exception to the “no tax increases ever” pledge and raise taxes on the middle class (by letting the Bush tax cuts expire on them)

5. That the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations pay their fair share of taxes.

6. “We need a tax code where everyone gets a fair shake, and where everyone pays their fair share”

7. Regulations: will regulate for health, safety and security, but will not wipe out the basic protections Americans have counted on for years (consumer protection, for example, such as Truth in Advertising)

8. We do not need to strip away collective bargaining rights in order to compete in a global economy

9. “We shouldn’t be in a race to the bottom where we try to offer the cheapest labor and most pollution standards, we should be in a race to the top and I believe we can win that race”

10. the GI bill, of all things!!! (some clapped for this one)

11. “it is time for us [Congress] to meet our responsibilities”

Each of the proposals in the American Jobs Bill that President Obama proposed have been supported by both Democrats and Republicans in the past, but the Republicans can’t even bring themselves to support these ideas. So what does that tell you?
